Did you ever wonder…
Why the valley is so dry?Several years back, trees lined most of the roads in the lower valley, protecting travelers from winds that came across the land, preventing some of the errosion from fields, and shading the highway during the heat of the summer. I remember enjoying summer breezes, and occasionally a picnic in the trees, where Mom would park while we waited for my Dad to get his lunch break. He worked most of those years as a lineman for the REA.
One of his jobs was to remove the trees on the side of the road where they planted poles and strung wire. It was the beginning of a new era – power to the people who lived in the country.
Telephone lines were run along the same path, hung on those same poles.
Back in the day…
Back then it was progress. Getting power to the people in the country, and removing those huge cottonwoods that had sprung up like weeds in the barrow ditches.
Today, with all that’s happening in the world around us, I’m wondering if we maybe progressed too much. Perhaps not having electricity and gadgets might have been beneficial?
Just thinking for a moment. I’m really grateful for indoor plumbing, refrigeration, and even telephones, but some of the technology now just seems to burn bridges.
Just a candid look inside?
And then the realization that without computers, I couldn’t share this thought… I suppose there’s good with bad.
